Take them Outside! Why Outdoor Play in Nature Matters
Date Aug 10, 2021 | Time 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Play is an essential ingredient for engaging children of all ages in meaningful and joyful learning. In this session we will review the importance of unstructured outdoor play in healthy child development and consider how we might prepare our spaces to best support equitable access for all children. Stories of success and specific examples will be shared to help build your confidence in what is sometimes considered messy and risky play! Leave with ideas and inspiration for transforming how you spend time with the children in your care.
Presenter: Megan Zeni is a PhD student in the Faculty of Education at UBC. Her research interests include elementary school teachers' experiences, attitudes, and opinions of unstructured outdoor play and learning. Megan has been a classroom teacher for more than 20 years, and currently teaches entirely outdoors in a garden classroom.
